 In front of the house is a formal Italianate garden culminating in the chapel of Santa Lucia and the orangery. Beyond, through the 'secret garden', is the clay tennis court (racquets & balls provided) and a swimming pool. We have another swimming pool in front of "La Casa dei Gelsi". Towels are in both pools already provided. |
We also put at our guests' disposal:
-Weekly musical evening, approx. mid May - October (usually Tuesdays),
-Wine tasting most weeks, usually Thursday,
-Horse riding, payable locally.

 Restaurant: the owners have finally realised their dreams of engaging a renowned chef to run their restaurant. Guests eat healthily as well as heartily at Villa di Monte Solare, since all the vegetables, as well as the olive oil, the honey, the vines and most of the fruit are grown organically on the 126-acre estate. Vegetarians are not faced with glum resignation or disbelief, as is usual in Tuscany and Umbria. Filippo is a lapsed vegetarian and so has first-hand experience of vegetarian requirements. |
 The bounties of their extensive Umbrian wine list (over 250 wines) can be sampled on the occasional evening wine-tasting. From May to October, after dinner, guests can enjoy a weekly concert of classical music. (Half board option includes 4-course dinner, à la carte menu & light-lunches available). |
 Courses: Filippo and Rosemarie have also created a programme of innovative, interesting and enjoyable courses catering for a variety of interests: cookery, wine-tasting, walking plus a tour of the surrounding region. One of the wonderful things about their courses is that they only need a minimum of two participants to operate and they are tailored for the more independent traveller.

 The panoramic views from the pool and sun terrace sweep over countryside that is as rich with pagan echoes as is Monte Solare, reputedly the place of worship of Apollo, the Sun God. At least half a dozen walks radiate from Monte Solare through this fascinating landscape that is dense with carpets of wildflowers every spring. There are a myriad of places to visit within a reasonable drive, including nearby Perugia and Lake Trasimeno, as well as Assisi, Spello, Todi and Orvieto, or you may prefer to explore at a more leisurely pace - on horse-back. |
