Via Roma 8, San Donato Val di Comino, 03046

Residenza d'Epoca Villa Grancassa, 3 Star Hotel, Frosinone, Lazio

A stone residence belonging to a town where the art of sculpture has written pages of history. His identity is as strong as the stone of which it is made. It is not darkened, but strengthened by his present function of hotel-restaurant. The welcome that Villa Grancassa offers to its guests, reflects the one that Felice Grancassa, the Lord who built it, used to offer to his guests. Each corner of the villa is lived by our guest today with the same intimacy and ease as guests of Lord Gracassa in the 19th Century.

The Comino Valley, thanks to its geographical position has been the place where many cultures, traditions and people, met and crushed. Place where the Battles between Romans and Sanniti toke place. It become spiritual land thanks to the influence of the Benedectins from the Montecassimo Abbey, at the end of the first Millennium. It became dukedom of Alvito under the dominion of the Gallios, feudal lords coming from Como. It marked the line between the "Stato Pontificio" and the Borbonic kingdom. Place where, during the World war II, the battle to break the Gustav Line took place.

The all Comino Valley cherishes memories and traces of each of these historical events. Villa Grancassa is one of the most important evidences of the historical importance of the Comino Valley. It was built in the 19th century by request of Priest Francesco Nardone. The beautiful portal and the majestic stone staircase prove the ability of experienced sculptors from San Donato.

A famous legend states that Lord Grancassa was a very rich man:
the legend says that at the end of the building works, people ran out of water. Felice, not discouraged at all by the fact, opened his cellars, and gave workers his wine in orderto blend the mortar and continue building the Villa. Thanks to his richness together with his great goodness, he always welcomed to his Villa humbles and powerful men, Bishops and asking for charity people.

Within three generations, thanks to the lack of male heir, nothing remained of the Family. Only an epigraph written in Latin, on the top on the main entrance, stated the constitution of the Family and its first achievements. Since 1994, after being used for over thirty years, as location for Seminarist vacations, the Villa as been transformed into the present comfortable Hotel and Restaurant.
