Profile

Situated in immediate proximity to Valderice, on the slopes of Mount Erice, stands Hotel Tonnara di Bonagia
an ancient Sicilian tuna fishery housing dating back to the 17th century which has been carefully restored and brought back to its original atmosphere.

The countryside around Erice is like the entrance to uncontaminated areas, where terrestrial and marine environment interlace and mingle, between present and the past offering seducing landscapes. Here, starts a fascinating itinerary beginning from Valderice, which has a hill position, from where you can reach the coast passing among green pine forest, citrus fruit trees and bougainvillaea.

Bonagia is an historical picturesque old fishing village pointed out on the emerald sea of the Egadi islands and the Tonnara di Bonagia represents one of the last fishing centres in the world, where the very antique local rite of "mattanza" (a ritual tuna fishing) still takes place every year in May and June. The exclusive and unique tourist complex of Tonnara di Bonagia is situated near the Saracen sighting tower in which is today possible to visit the Tonnara Museum, containing boats, work tools, and objects connected with the mattanza rite.

The restaurant "La Muciara" overlooks the characteristic little port and allows tasting the specialities of the noblest gastronomic tradition of Trapani. Moreover, inside the estate there are the sport centre with swimming-pool, tennis court, bowling green, diving centre and a congress centre seating 250 persons, with a congress room and two meeting rooms with a capacity of 60 seats.
