I stay in US hotels 60+ days a year and schedule/manage meetings in hotels for from 20 to 400 people on a regular basis. Not only was our stay at Tana dell'Istrice more than enjoyable (I wish we could have stayed longer), this hotel was the best of the half dozen we stayed in on this trip, and in every respect among the top handful of hotels in which I have stayed in 50 years of foreign and domestic travel. It is small and without a cast/staff of hundreds, but the setting, the property and the owner/managers combined to leave us with desire to return.

Our expectations for the property and the family who greeted us were far exceeded. As soon as we walked in the door, we knew we were going to love staying at Hotel La Tana dell'Istrice.

The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The property was beautiful and our room was perfect - we were upgraded to a large spacious suite and loved it. The dining experience with wine pairing was one of the best we have ever experienced.

Everything went smoothly at checkout as with the rest of our stay. We were sad to leave!

You should definitely emphasize the quality of the food, wine and overall dining experience.

I would describe it as one of the most special and memorable places I have ever stayed. I have already highly recommended it to friends and colleagues at work.

An excellent Hotel and you are most welcome as being part of the Mottura family. The food and wine were excellent as was the service. They can recommend good restaurants nearby when they are closed, and whilst we were there included us into a village event.
I must say though that the entry and exit to the square in which the Hotel is situated is daunting.

Alessandra and Sergio were very friendly and welcoming. We were late arriving and they had dinner waiting for us. They also upgraded us to a suite.

The food was amazing. We had two extraordinary meals at La Tana dell'Istrice. Both were five-course meals and were paired with five different wines.

Is very good for those who like wine and to see what a small family wine making operation is like.

Charming small hotel with friendly English speaking onwer who loves sharing his wine making experiences. Quite location and central to other sites.

I was looking for a wine estate so was confused to have to find one building in the middle of a small village.

We were the only guests booked for this time.
The owner had gone away and left his daughter in charge.
Because there was only two of us staying the restaurant was not available in the evening and as this was the birthday of my partner it was booked for a special occassion.
The lounge of the hotel was closed for decoration.
As this was a Thursday the village was closed and I had to rely on a pizza take-away.

The daughter offered and gave me a tasting of their own wine and showed me the cellars.
This I considered as some kind of compensation.
I also had a bottle of prosecco from the room bar for my partners birthday which on paying the bill I negotiated as a gift as compensation.
Given the right time when it is up and running it could be a nice place.
But after staying in other four star hotels in the region I do not think this could be classed as equal.

We were invited to a dinner in their dining room with wines by Sergio Mattuao. It was FANTASTIC! Then we adjourned for coffee and grappa in the salon and talked with the other hotel guests for 1-1/2 hours. This was our first night in Italy and it was so wonderful that we overslept the next morning.

The dinner and wine reception for guests. Don't know if it is every night, though.
