The Hotel Shelley e delle Palme is situated on the coast of the Liguria region, in front of the sea. Lerici is located on the extreme eastern side of the "Poets Gulf". It can be reached directly from the city of La Spezia by driving along Viale San Bartolomeo, past the main shipyards and through the gallery of Scoglietti, or by leaving the highway at Sarzana' s exit and following the road Provinciale. Lerici's origin dates back to the VII century and there are written documents proving the destruction by the Saracens of Santa Marta' s church in the VIII century.

In the 1152 the noble families of Vezzano and Arcola sold Lerici to the city of Genoa with an act of saḷe, the "mons ilics", which was questioned by the noble family of Malaspina allied with the city of Pisa. Genoa and Pisa competed for a long time to have the supremacy over the Tirreno sea and over Lerici which soon became strategically an commercially important. In 1241 Pisa after defeating Genoa at Giglio island, stated the construction of another base and of a fortified castle in Lerici. When Genoa took control of the town again in 1245 the castle was enlarged and it was finished in 1273.

After the defeat of the Doge Simon Boccanegra, Lerici was governed by the noble families of Visconti and Fieschi in 1392. The castle conquered by Charle VIII king of France and sold to the city of Florence in 1411 only to be returned once more to the city of Genoa and then to the Aragoneses and to the Fregoso family. It was only in 1469 that the Republic of Genoa finally and permanently took hold of Lerici and its castle. In 1555 the Banco of San Giorgio reconstructed the castle as it can be seen today.

Lerici lost its importance with the discovery of new commercial routes and witnessed an urban growth only between the XVII and the XVIII centuries. However its mild weather and natural beauties in the XIX century attracted famous poets and writers from all over the world including Byron and Shelley. In this historic and pleasant ambience, you will find the Hotel Shelley e delle Palme, completely immersed in a beautiful scenery, just in front of the coast and the sea.
