"PALATIUM" Historical memory of "Castrum S.Victorini" goes back to 1163, in a degree by which emperor Federico Barbarossa granted series of benefits to Gubbio. The "Palatium" , a stout stone building refined by a roundish tower, rises on a hill, certainly a privileged place to watch over the entrance roads to the city. |
The hill and its fortified palace have a defensive structure; the court on which the castle rises with the church and its prebenda, besides an unique and severe architechtonic, probably were places to offer shelter to passing by foreigners. "Via Francescana" to Vallingegno, San Pietro in Vigneto and Assisi passed there. |
Today the fully restored palace is the owners' family residence and it is situated in the centre of an agrarian concern of 32 Ha., among, oak-trees, pine-forests and olive-trees. Only 5 Km far from Gubbio. |
