We had a wonderful time at Villa San Michele! The hotel has breath-takingly beautiful gardens and wonderful sea views. The highlights of our stay were the amazing meals we had in the restaurant. The owners were friendly and spoke English very well (which was great because our Italian was terrible). Everything was within an easy walking distance, including the towns of Atrani and Amalfi, and the stunning views from Ravello were just a short (intense) hike from our hotel. ... More should be said about the wonderful restaurant. The dinners we had there very simple and amazingly delicious! The best caffe lattes and cappuccinos I've ever had. ... For those less inclined to walking or hiking, the SITA bus stops right in front of the hotel, which is very convenient. Would highly recommend this charming hotel and hope that I can visit Villa San Michele again in the near future!

This hotel was fabulous. We came on our honeymoon and didn't want to leave. The staff were very friendly and the views were amazing. The hotel is very private but close to main towns on the Amalfi coast, allowing for opportunities to relax and explore the area. I was a little nervous about half board (there are so many good restaurants in Italy, right?) but this turned out to be a great decision. The food was delicious (and they accomodated me, a vegetarian), but better, we were able to become friends with the other guests who we saw at dinner every night. With only a few (maybe 10?) rooms, we became a little family. And while exploring in Amalfi, Atrani, and Ravello we ran into other guests and it was running into friends... ... Fabulous

The views are really fantastic . alovely , family run inn . We were very happy. It should be noted that there are many stairs to climb and it is not a place for the physically unfit. Beautiful breakfast room , nice flowers on the grounds , sweet people. ... Enchanted April!!( in October)

We were confused by the fact that the hotel lay below the level of the main road, so it took us a little while to find it at first! (It is built into the rockface) We were delighted with the assistance of Nicola, who took charge of parking the car for us, and who carried all our luggage down to our room. ... We couldn't have wished for a happier experience - excellent room, with fantastic views; superb meals, served with good humour and efficiency. We found the 170 steps from our room to the road a bit tiring, but by the end of the week, we were much fitter!! Also appreciated the private swimming area and outdoor lounge overlooking the sea. ... As we had to leave very early, Nicola kindly took our bags up the (170) steps on the previous evening. We paid the outstanding bill the same evening. We received our receipts correctly and with minimum fuss. ... You ought to make it clear that the hotel is very near the junction of the road to Ravello, and that it might easily be passed without noticing, because all that is visible is the Hotel sign and off-street parking area. You might warn elderly or disabled that there are so many steps - they cannot be avoided. Recommend the meals - they are so good; freshly made, including fresh fish at every opportunity. The chef is excellent. ... The Hotel is one of the most pleasant and comfortable I have experienced. Its position, built onto the rocks, provides a quiet retreat from the busy surrounding area as well as superb views of the coastline. I was impressed by the fact that the hotel was patronised by Italians. This was an excellent base from which to explore the area. I would want to keep the place a secret, and might not tell my friends about it at all!

Although we enjoyed our stay at the Villa San Michele it was extremely noisy in the rooms. Because of the tiling found throughout the hotel and thin walls you can hear everything. You can hear the people above you walking around their room and at the sides of you talking and the televisions blaring. We were even unfortunate enough to have some very noisy neigbours who were not quiet until 4 in the morning. You can also hear people walking down the stairs and luggage banging. ... There was no room available for leaving luggage therefore we had to leave it in the open and were worried that it could be taken. ... The breakfasts were poor and the same each morning a basked with two hard rolls and two croissants (none of which were warm) some jam, two glasses or orange juice and tea or coffee. The rooms are basic and noisy. The food at dinner is good but there is not a lot of choice for vegetarians and if you don't eat fish then you won't have much to eat at all. ... I would say that the location was good but I would not stay there again as the rooms were noisy, the little touches were missing, the towels were horrible, the service was indifferent, breakfast was not good and there were a lot of steps.
