The town has Umbrian origins, was ruled by the Romans and, at the peak of its influence, became the capital of the Lombard Duchy. It later came under the control of the Church, which commissioned the construction of the famous Fortress of Albornoz. |

By Car: Highway A1 (direction Rome): exit at "Orte" and follow directons to "Terni" and then to "Spoleto". Take the second entrance to the town and go up to the historical centre. Highway A1 (direction Florence): exit at "Val di Chiana" and follow directions to "Perugia, Foligno, Spoleto) Take the first entrance to the town and go up to the historical centre. From Rome airport: Go towards the G.R.A. (grande raccordo anulare), cover some km following the direction A-1 for Florence. enter in A-1 and after approximately 30 min exit to Orte. Go towards Terni and Spoleto (about 50 km). Total time employed: about 2 hours. From Florence: Go towards A-1, enter in Rome direction. Follow A-1 for about 30 minutes. Exit to Valdichiana and follow the SS75 towards Ponte San Giovanni and Foligno. At Foligno follow the SS3 Flaminia until Spoleto. Total time employed: about 2 hours. |
