Profile

"A small village....surrounded by a wood of strong and fresh green...", wrote Guy De Maupassant the first time he saw Portofino in 1889. Long time ago but the magic of this place has remained unchanged. And this charm continues to attract people from all over the world and all year around. It is a simple fishing village with narrow coloured houses, closely built one to the other, crossed by many roads that lead to the very well-known square of polished pebbles already famous in the whole world. This jewel has always hosted important personalities that have made and continue to make history.

Behind the stage of boutiques and yachts, the Mediterranean scrub of the Nature Park stretches out luxuriant and unspoilt, cross by many paths where still today the tracks of an ancient peasant civilisation are preserved. In the tiny narrow harbour a handful of open fishing boats are moored amongst the luxury leisure vessels.

It is this surviving hint of authentic that makes Portofino so special, together with its perfect setting. The village, the tall headland and deep bay: a glorious coming together of all elements that give the Italian Riviera its unique visual impact, luminous pastels set against the deep green hills that framed by the intense blues of sky and sea. The tradition of this place is preserved also in the feast of San Giorgio, the patron of Portofino.

He is represented everywhere: the main church, a art gallery, a shop, a name of a street and the Hotel San Giorgio, one of the typical coloured houses that after a complete restoration has been opened two years ago. The Hotel is a very good example of the blend of ancient tradition, modern technology and high quality service.

In the renovation original dimensions and colours have been maintained as well as the specific decorations of the typical Ligurian style. The simplicity and consistency of the slate used in and out the building give elegance and harmony to the house that is located in a very quite and relaxing position, out of the confusion of the crowd but at a walking distance from the famous "Piazzetta".
