The Hotel Rufolo is situated just in the centre of the quaint village of Ravello. It is a little charming town of the Amalfi Coast renowned all over the world for its beauties. Perched on a 350 ft high cliff overlooking the blue sea of the Amalfi Coast, it has kept its charm and its historical monuments through the ages in a natural setting which has few equals in the world. One of the most important monuments is the Cathedral, founded in 1086, where you can admire the Ambo and the Pulpit decorated with Byzantine mosaics, the splendid bronze doors (1179) by Barisano da Trani and the Museum situated in the crypt. Other churches are San Giovanni del Toro, S.Maria in Gradillo , and the convent of St.Francesco with its library. Ravello chief's glories are the two wonderful gardens: Villa Cimbrone with its breathtaking view and Villa Rufolo with its ancient palace and beautiful gardens which inspired Richard Wagner for his Parsifal. In his honour, for fifty years, takes place the Wagner Festival during the month of July nevertheless there are concerts all the year round, for that reason Ravello has been called City of the Music. The ancient streets and the narrow alleyways allow the visitors to make romantic walks in this enchanting town and among the hills which surround the place. But its main characteristic is the graceful harmony and the quiet which always bewitch the numerous guests that come to Ravello during all the year. |
