Amelia is the most ancient Umbrian town, founded by Umbrian peoples in the XII century B.C. The village is protected and surrounded by polygonal megalithic walls, built with huge blocks without using grout. According to the legend the walls were built by Cyclopes. Amelia was an important prosperous municipality of Roman peoples and the original name was "Ameria".

How To Reach Us
 
By Car, by Train or by Plane:
Amelia is 1 hour north of Rome and 2 hours south of Florence, just half an hour from Orte railway station and at easy reach from other wonderful towns: 10 minutes from Narni, half an hour from Todi, Terni and Viterbo, 40 minutes from Orvieto and Spoleto and about 1 hour and a half from Assisi.
From Fiumicino airport it takes about 75 minutes by car and 45 minutes from Perugia airport. The Relais "La Tenuta del Gallo" is 5 minutes from Amelia.
- A1 from Florence:
Reach Orte paytoll and then follow the same directions as arrivino from Rome.
Otherwise: reach Attigliano paytoll and follow directions to Lugnano in Teverina - Porchiano - Amelia. When you reach the Roman Bridge before Amelia town, turn left to Macchie. Follow that road for about 10 minutes (6 km.) and then turn right.
- A1 from Rome:
Reach Orte paytoll and then take E45 direction Terni up to Amelia exit. Follow directions to Amelia, pass Amelia and proceed towards Orvieto for about 2 km. At the Roman Bridge, turn right to Macchie; go straight ahead for about 6 km and then turn right.
- From Terni and Perugia following E-45:
Take the Link-road Terni-Orte, direction Rome, up to Amelia exit. Follow directions to Amelia, pass Amelia and proceed towards Orvieto for about 2 km. At the Roman Bridge, turn right to Macchie; go straight ahead for about 6 km and then turn right.
