Profile

The hotel is located in "Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo" (The Palace of the Captain of the People) which is a medieval building that, after having undergone innumerable transformations during the past centuries and after a recent restoration, has become an elegant and comfortable hotel. Because of the modern structure, the rooms of the hotel were made more functional and efficient, even if they are still preserving their untouched fascination and flavour of the past centuries.

Today, Hotel Posta with its brick facework, merlons, vertical mullioned leaded glass windows, and frescoed coats of arms of the first "Capitani del Popolo" (medieval magistrates), meets perfectly all the requirements of people who work and travel, as the ancient "Salone del Capitano del Popolo" is used as a conference room, under the magnificent wooden trussed ceiling. It's a place in which history, art and modern comforts blend together in charming surroundings, making it an ideal place for anyone looking for a special sojourn.

The events witnessed by this medieval building over 8 centuries have left their mark in the rooms and halls with a charming mixture of styles which give the guest a real taste of history.
The charming little dining hall for breakfast with its stuccoes, skylight and large Murano glass chandelier, dates back to a 19th century restructuring.

The pleasant "old house" feeling found in Hotel Posta and the mixture of styles have also influenced the elegant furnishing of the thirty-four rooms and nine suites, which are situated some in the old part of the building and maintain the lead windows, while others have a 19th century character.

Hystory: the history of Hotel Posta is closely linked to the ancient city and its tradition of hospitality. To sleep within the walls of Hotel Posta in Reggio Emilia, right in the heart of the hexagon which encloses the historic city centre, is like passing through eight centuries of history. The hotel is located in "Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo" (engl. The Palace of the Captain of the People) which is a medieval building that for four centuries has been having a hotel tradition. Infact, after being the seat of the Captains of the People in the 14th century, the residence of "Sigismondo d'Este" in the 15th century, in 1515 with the suggestive name "Locanda del Cappello Rosso" (engl. The Inn of the Red Hat) the building was assigned as a hotel.

Built in 1280 as one of the first examples of civil building, meant to house the magistrate created by the art Guilds, the "Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo" is to an extent a symbol of the city. Historical events, various work on the building and different uses have left their mark over the years. In 1460 it was the home of the marquis Sigismondo d'Este and from 1515 its upper floors were used as a hotel which in 1792 took on the charming name of "Locanda del Cappello rosso" (the Red Hat Inn).

The primitive forms with the coping of bifid merlons were restored to the building with a large-scale restoration in 1931 carried out by the new owner Eugenio Terrachini.
The tradition continued, and it was his son, Paolo Terrachini who looked after the internal restructuring in 1986 to furnish rooms with facilities and services which were more up-to-date, as well as the restoration of the lounge, the building's main pride: the old inn thus turns into an elegant four star hotel.

However, the traces of time and the fashions which have come and gone still remain, and a tour through the different rooms makes for an interesting itinerary: medieval architecture, the brick facade decorated with the frescoed coats of arms of the magistrates who took turns to command the city, the majestic 16th century lounge on the upper floor, the hall, and finally the bar, with its late 19th century furnishing taken from the glorious "Nazzani" confectioner's in Reggio, once a meeting place for the city's notables.
