| Hotel Paradise is situated in the historical centre of Bologna, just around the corner from the city's main shopping street Via dell'Indipendenza, and conveniently located within very short walking distance from the main square Piazza Maggiore and its many outdoor bars, restaurants and cafés. The lively university quarter is also located close nearby with its many music clubs and bookstores. Bologna University was founded in the year 1088 and it is Europe's oldest. Located close nearby you can also admire the two towers, Garisenda e Asinelli, which are the traditional symbol of Bologna and the trademark in its skyline. Today they stand right at the middle of the opening of Porta Ravegnana square, but this does not correspond to their original layout, which comprised wooden constructions all around their base and hanging passageways. In the late 12th century, at least one hundred towers dotted the town' s skyline, but today only twenty have survived the ravages of fire, warfare and lightning. |
