The wine-producing estate La Montecchia is nestled into the first risings of the fabulously beautiful Euganean hills, 15 km to the south-west of the medieval city of Padova, surrounded by vineyards and by a 27-hole golf course. Today the estate and its owners are wholly dedicated to the production of high-quality wine which has been increasingly winning accolades from leading wine critics all over the world. Three farmhouses whithin the winery have recently been completely renovated with every comfort for the discerning guest and one wing of the castle has been tastefully adapted into a spacious B&B Suite. |
La Montecchia, in the hands of the family of Count Emo Capodilista since the 11th century, lies within easy reach of the famous historic villas of the Veneto, many of them built by the great Italian architect Andrea Palladio. Cultural milestones such as the northern Italian towns of Venice, Vicenza, Verona, Ferrara and Mantua, as well as Modena, Bergamo, Cremona and Lake Garda are all less than one hours drive away. |
Crossing the gravel courtyard and climbing up the little Mottolo hill, one arrives at the castle dominated by its massive keep. Flanked by pine trees, its ancient walls are covered with Virginia creeper and wisteria. Castello del Mottolo is a refuge where tranquillity reigns, accompanied only by birdsong and the rustle of the breeze. The medieval Castello del Mottolo, is at the heart of the estate, while the Villa Capodilista, an elegant 16th century villa which is considered one of the highlights of the area, overlooks the estate from a hillock. The pool of the neighbouring Golf Club (literally 2 minutes from the houses) is open to the guests of the estate. |
