For those who don't mind trading a few hours of sightseeing for the chance to tinker in an Italian kitchen, the agriturismo offers cooking classes in English. A typical half-day session includes a gourmet shopping tour and the preparation of a complete meal (lunch or dinner). |
The menu might call for cured meats, including the local specialty, wild boar; cheeses; bruschetta with fresh, diced tomatoes; red and yellow bell peppers fried in olive oil with capers, olives and anchovies; homemade ravioli stuffed with ricotta cheese and Swiss chard from the family garden; and for dessert, panna cotta, a silky custard topped with a hazelnut-honey paste. You'll soon come to appreciate why Italian cuisine is so highly regarded! |
Please note that short stays are available for minimum of 3 nights during Bank holidays. There is a minimum of 2 nights stay for the rest of the year. Hands-on cooking classes are available for 2 to 6 participants, please reserve in advance. Assisi, hometown of Saint Francis, is famous around the world for its medieval are and religious monuments. The Basilica of Saint Francis, built in shimmering pink marble like the rest of the town, is one of the greatest monuments to XIII and XIV Italian art. Umbria's beautiful medieval hill towns like Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto and Perugia are all within easy reach from "Alla Madonna del Piatto", as is Tuscany's splendid Renaissance city Siena and the Chianti wine region. Its geographic location and good connecting trains also allows for day excursions to Urbino and Florence. |
