The drive from the valley offers magnificent views of the city: up high on a majestic mesa, the mediaeval towers and houses stands silhouetted against the sky and the great cathedral glows gold in the afternoon sun. Locanda Rosati is located only a few kilometres from the magic city of Orvieto, along the panoramic road towards lake Bolsena. This late 19th-century old stone farmhouse has been completely renovated and style refurbished in to suit the particular tastes of the owners. |
Locanda Rosati is a warm and friendly haven at the end of a long day spent wandering around mediaeval towns. In fact, the farmhouse is ideally located for day excursions to the art cities of Lazio and parts of Tuscany, including the Val d'Orcia, Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino, where old traditions in culture, wine and food still reign. The loveliest cities in Umbria are also within easy reach, including Todi, Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, as well as the fascinating smaller towns such as Spello, Cortona, Cittą della Pieve. |
The countryside is unbelievable beautiful all year round: what could be nicer than sitting around the fire, sipping a glass of fine local wine, after a hike through the wood and fields. In summer you can wind down in the park with an occasional dip in the swimming pool framed by olive trees and rock-cut caves. Once you have been here and let the true soul of Umbria sink in, you'll be eager to return to enjoy the stimulating company in the relaxing atmosphere of Locanda Rosati. |
The house itself is furnished so as to make you feel at home: The ground floor has a more intimate reading or music room as well as a large informal space for casual encounters and conversations. There are two common cosy living rooms with fireplace and a large stone-walled dining room divided by a brick archway leading down to the tuff stone cellar. It's easy to remember which room is yours, for all are metaphorically inhabited by local creatures - hare, dog, badger, dormouse, racoon, cat and frog - shown (in wood) above the door. |
The quality cuisine reflects the origin of your hosts and keeps faith with the finest tradition of the Umbrian and Tuscan countryside. Appetising home-made pasta dishes and thick soups with cold pressed extra-virgin olive oil, as well as Tuscan ribollita (vegetable and bread soup), prepared with produce and herbs from the Locanda's garden, appear on the table every day. Unbelievably savoury roasts, fragrant bread and pizza all come out of the traditional wood-burning brick oven. Locanda Rosati is an ideal place for encounter. |
