Hotel Il Palazzo, built in the 1500's following the design of Giulio Danti, is situated midway between the "Basilica di San Francesco" and the main square "Piazza del Comune", along via San Francesco. Its foundation rises from storehouses stables and inns of the twelfth-thirteen century. To this day inhabited and run by descendants, the family Bartocci Fontana, the Palazzo still preserves the "telari" (canvas paintings embedded in the wall) painted by Antonio Nessi and located in the central salon on the first floor. The "Telari" which depict mythological scenes, were painted at the end of the eighteenth century in tempera following the decorative manner. |
Located in the left wing of Palazzo Bartocci Fontana is the Hotel Il Palazzo. All the rooms of the Hotel differ from one another in size, shape and simple antiques furnishing which are typical from Umbria. The beams in several rooms are the original of Oak and poplar. |
From the front rooms at the second floor one enjoys the splendid view down on the Spoleto valley, delimited by the hills of Bettona and Perugia, framed with the green Umbrian Hills. Relaxed atmosphere and attention of details welcome the host in a comfortable environment that preserves all the charme of yesterday, making it an unique experience. The Hotel is the right place to spend a pleasant stay, and to discover history, tradition and mysticism that are highlights of Assisi. |
