The Hotel, dating from the end of the 1800's and originally built as a factory in Maiolica, is by the the lakeside 2 km from Menaggio and facing the Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio. Family run hotel offering all comforts: all rooms with private facilities and lake view. |
Just opposite the hotel you can find a well equipped lido with swimming pool and snack bar and nearby there are also free beaches. The name Cadenabbia derives originally from "Ca dei Nauli" or "Casa dei Barcaioli" as in olden times the hotel used to be an inn, where merchants from Lecco and Como, using special flat bottomed boats to take their wares and provisions up and down the lake, stopped to rest and eat. |
Over the years many well known people have visited this area amongst whom are Stendhal, Giuseppe Verdi, Longfellow, Queen Victoria, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Arch Duke Nicholas II of Russia and in more recent times chancellor Konrad Adenauer a supporter of The European Union. One famous visitor we remember in particular is Carlo Guglielmo Franzani, who died in Carlazzo in 1813, as he left his self portrait on a wall in the courtyard of his family home. |
