The Epicurean experience....
The hotel Palazzo Lovera offers his guests two different cuisine: the Bistrot and the Delle Antiche Contrade restaurant. The Bistrot is the typical local trattoria where piedmontese dishes can be appreciate according in a 2 or 3 course combination, with the utmost care of the food quality.
The Delle Antiche Contrade is our Michelin starred restaurant, member of the Jeunes Restaurateurs d'Europe association. Inside a completely reconstructed "palazzo" dating back to 1700 and situated in the historical part of the town, our head cook Marc Lanteri offers the possibility to taste a kind of cooking related to the Piedmontese territory and traditions. Fresh fish arrives every Thursday from the market of Santa Margherita Ligure. Five times a year the menu changes thanks to the ability of our cook and his class, who like to perform themselves, giving a touch of renewal to the various dishes.

Many different experiences of cooking are gathered here from some of the best restaurants in France and Italy: the cooking of Alain Ducasse from the restaurant "Louis XV" in Montecarlo, the ability of Ezio Santin, from the "Antica Osteria del Ponte" in Cassinetta di Lugagnano, the competence of Paolo Teverini from Bagno di Romagna and Annie Féolde from the Pinchiorri wine cellar in Florence, the skill of people such as Philippe Rostang from Paris and Christian Morisset from the "La Terrasse Juana" in Juan les Pins. Our cellar provides a selection of about 900 types of wine, mainly Piedmontese (with a large choice of Barolo and Barbaresco wines), but also from other parts of Italy. As Italy borders France particular attention has been given to some French wines coming from the regions of Bordeaux and Bourgogne.

Cooking lessons
Under the supervision of our talented head cook Marc Lanteri, who has an excellent "curriculum vitae" with experiences in some of the best Italian and foreign restaurants, our guests are allowed to learn the secrets of the traditional Piedmontese cooking. We organise cooking courses for individuals and for small groups (maximum six people). During each lesson (which lasts about four hours) you can learn how to prepare some of our best dishes. At the end of the course a certificate and an original HLP overall will be given. Our concierge service is glad to plann all sorts of tours and visits of the Langhe, Barbaresco and Barolo area, as well as Montecarlo and any other particular region the guests wish to experience.

DISCOVERING THE LANGHE

Barolo
The words Barolo and Langhe are so closely linked that they have practically become synonyms, which is understandable since, like the human heart, Barolo as both wine and community is the life force of the surrounding region, the Langhe. One way of discovering the Langhe is to visit the communities perched on the hilltops of the zone. Each has its castle, its church and town hall and they are all separated from one another by lush, geometrically ordered vineyards whose expanses are interrupted only by a few, isolated farmhouses. Barolo gives its name to one of the most famous Italian wines, produced from the prestigious Nebbiolo wine. The first promoters of this wine where the marquise Giulia Falletti and SilvioPellico. The village is dominated by a castle.
It was in those ancient cellars, then, that the Barolo of the Marchesi di Barolo was born, the incomparable gift of vineyards that are centuries old. The exceptional and exhilarating history of the wine continues to inspire the people who make Barolo and reinforces their devotion to the vineyard and the cellar.
They work with the conviction that the wine contributes to the humanity of the entire world. The vineyards are the same as in the past, when Barolo took its first steps along the path of continuous improvement and further refinement. The vines are still bathed in sunlight, protected from the winds and far removed from areas that are stagnant and humid. Barolo has its ideal habitat where the soil is richer and the sun's rays are more concentrated.

Guided visit of "Marchesi di Barolo" Estate and Wine cellar, with tasting of the best wines produced by the winerie.

The mountains of Cuneo
Stura Valley, the longest of the Cuneo valleys, has its starting point from Borgo San Dalmazzo, that hosts the Fiera Fredda (Cold Fair) in December dedicated to the snail since 1569, and climbs until Colle della Maddalena (Maddalena Pass), an historical connection towards France.
The valley offers splendid cross-country skiing tracks and routes for alpine skiing and mountainbike; Vinadio is extremely famous for its fortifications, wanted by king Carlo Alberto, after a period of Napoleonic domination, then the Vinadio Baths, with its Thermal Centre of sulphorous waters, and the Sanctuary of St. Anna.
The Sant'Anna di Vinadio shrine is found in the heart of the Maritime Alps amongst old glaciers and picturesque lakes.
There is a local tradition that Sant'Anna appeared to a shepherdess near to where the shrine was built. The shrine was built thanks to the work of pilgrims who continue to come here in their thousands, with numbers increasing every year.
At 2,035 metres, it is the highest shrine in Europe, and can only be reached in the summertime, from June to the beginning of September. The shrine administration provides hospitality services for the pilgrims, for groups of school children and for anyone who wishes to experience a period of spiritual contemplation.

SAVOY KING'S LANDS
The Castle of Racconigi
The Castle of Racconigi dates back to the end of the 12th century. It belonged before to the marquis of Saluzzo, then to the princes d'Acaja and in 1605 it became a Savoy property.
Its enlargement and its transformation into a nobiliary residence began at that time. In 1676 Emanuele Filiberto di Carignano entrusted the Modenese architect Guarino Guarini the direction of the works and his drawings still exist in the archives. Only the splendid façade giving onto the park, the central room with the majestic tower risen in the middle of the pre-existing internal courtyard were carried out according to Guarini's projects. It was chosen as a "Royal Court Holiday Resort" and in 1831 it was furtherly enlarged according to a project by Ernesto Melano and Pelagio Palagi by order of Carlo Alberto, who had chosen it as his favourite summer holiday residence even before becoming a king. The most prestigious venues are the large central room embellished with statues, stuccoes and gilt, the room of Diana with marble fire-places and stucco bas-reliefs of the 18th century and the Chinese apartment. The castle contains several precious paintings, sculptures and pieces of furniture. A wonderful park, whose extension is now of 170 hectares, extends behind the castle. The castle and the land belong to the State since 1980 and are under restoration at present. Guided visit of 1° and 2° floor, royal chapel and kitchen.
