the only confusing thing was the last turn on the directions , a small windy street, recptionist very helpful directing us. ... breakfast was excellent; there was a festival going on that we were unaware of and got to see a tarantula show and concert , as well as Regatta, a very nice surprise ... exchange rate up so total amt more than originally planned for ... because we were in lttle village there were small stores right nearby that we could by small items ... in quaint fishing village with combination of the old village and up to date, very easy and pretty walk to historic Sorrento, much closer than expected . great sunset from up there

One concern was the size of the shower stall - so small as to make it difficult to turn around in! Also, noise from late night partygoers in the hall woke us up the first night. The location of the hotel was great -- close enough to 'climb' into town, but bus service available. Also close to some great seafood restaurants and a couple of small shops. ... We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the breakfast -- included hot food (eggs, bacon) as well as a good selection of pastries and meats and cheese. Compared to our hotel in Rome, Hotel del Mare was very good value for the money. ... A small hotel in the Marina Grande area of Sorrento. Lovely views of Vesuvius and the fishing marina from the rooftop, within walking distance of town. Close to some great seafood restaurants.

Housekeeping protocol was a bit unclear. We did not have the towels or bathmat changed for several days, and they were hung up but still wet when we would come back in the evening. In some places we have stayed in Europe and Great Britain, the hotel has signs indicating that if you want to help conserve energy, you may opt to use the same towels; if you want fresh, you are to leave the towels on the floor, or hang them up if you are willing to re-use. Apparently the del Mare must have some such policy, because we decided to leave the towels on the floor and did get fresh replacements then. However, if that is their practice, it would be good to let guests know this, either at check-in or with a sign in the bathroom. also, when we arrived there were no hangers in the wardrobe and we had to request them; we were brought 4 hangers for 2 people for a 5-day stay. We didn't ask for more, but certainly could have used them. finally, while there is Sky TV, the television itself is so small and high up that it's kind of a waste of time to try to watch (but we don't go on vacation to watch TV, so that wasn't a real probalem for us.) Finally, internet usage costs quite a bit--the charge is 5 Euro for an hour. ... The confirmatory e-mail stated we could pay be credit card or cash. the day before we left, I was using the iternet in the reception area, and heard another guest paying who was told he needed to pay by cash. I checked with the clerk at theat point, and he said we had to pay in cash as well. since we had time to go 'uptown' to get money from an ATM (Bancomat), we did that. I could have brought the e-mail down to show the clerk, but we just decided to pay cash rather than get into an argument. I do wonder what would have happened had I not overheard the conversation of the other guest and asked the clerk about payment. ... We loved the location, the opublic areas, and the breakfast. Our room was quite small, as was the bathroom, but it was good value for the money. ... Excellent value for the money, nice facilities, great breakfast, good staff, good location if you like to be a little off the beaten path. Typical small rooms and bathrooms, but well-furnished.
