The historic street to Marina Grande takes you through an ancient gateway into the walls of Sorrento and down a pathway with shallow steps leading to the cove and its wonderful views of Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples. Here you will find colourful fishing boats drawn up on the beach as they have been for two thousand years of history, yet the busy centre of Sorrento and its port are just a 15-minute walk away. By car: coming from Rome, from the highway A1 to Naples, take the A3 to Salerno. Exit at Castellammare di Stabia, SS 145 to Sorrento. Once in Sorrento at the crossroad turn left along via degli Aranci. After 1.5 km you will reach corso Italia facing the hospital. Take a sharp right U turn down to via del Mare: the hotel is situated at the end.
By bus: Marina Grande has a regular bus service from Sorrento town centre. (Line D Bus)
By plane: the nearest airport is Naples Capodichino. From there, there is a regular bus service, Curreri, to Sorrento. Limousine service is available, on request at an extra charge.
By train: there is a regular service taking about 1 hour from Naples (Piazza Garibaldi or central station). Outside Sorrento railway station take a bus (Line D) or taxi to Marina Grande.
By hydrofoil: a pleasant ride by hydrofoil from Naples Beverello quay brings you to Sorrento in about 35 minutes. Departures are every two hours. |
