This three star hotel completely renovated in 2002 is situated in a historical building right in the center of the town of Amalfi. From here you have an unrivalled view of the Cathedral. Here in Amalfi hospitality is an ancient tradition, precious for the Amalfi people and they continue this tradition offering a comfortable stay in a historical building but which has all the modern comforts.

Since 1398 in this building lived the Piccolomini, feudal lords of the Duchy of Amalfi. The Ducal palace lay between the Piazza dei Ferrari, the Vicolo delle Piscine, the sea and the Platea Nova (nowadays the Piazza del Duomo). At street level there were numerous shops and the churches of S. Pietro and S. Stefano both called de Platea. As a sign of deeply felt gratitude for military aid received in reaffirming the power of the Kingdom of Naples, King Ferdinand d'Aragona gave his daughter Maria in marriage to Antonio Piccolomini, offering the Duchy of Amalfi as dowry.

On the 21st May 1461 Antonio Duke of Amalfi rode with the King along the streets of Naples, wearing a gold crown and carrying the standard and the pennant, symbols of his authority. This is how the Piccolomini, who came from Siena, became the Dukes of Amalfi, and their official residence then took its name from them.
