 In the centre of a great property of beyond 200 hectares, on the top of a hill that overlooks all the east Sicily, rises the farm holidays Gigliotto. The mythological and artistic Sicily is not far from this bewitched and magic place, whose position in the heart of the earth of the sun makes it a strategic place of departure for excursions. |
Taormina, Agrigento, Siracusa, Piazza Armerina with its famous roman Villa, Morgantina with its Greek theatre, Caltagirone with its majolica and all the other wonderful localities that this land rich in history offers are easy reachable. |
In a Benedectine monastery constructed in the 13th century and then used as a farmhouse for centuries, proprietors Elio and Laura Savoca have beautifully restored this ancient property into a flourishing farmhouse. |
 The restoration has been made to complement the traditional architecture of Gigliotto, with its expansive courtyard, arched entryways, high beamed ceilings and stone walls that create a warm and ancient atmosphere. The structure, of particular architectonic value, consists of various buildings centred around a traditional Sicilian courtyard. |
 History
In the past, the ancient territory of Ganzaria, where Gigliotto resides, was a large feudal estate. In 1296 it belonged to Gugliemo Padula. While Sicily was under the rule of the Spanish Aragon family, the estate was passed on to the Gravina family who separated it and sold it off into smaller parts. In 1574 Michele Gravina sold Gigliotto to Silvio Bonanno. Gigliotto then remained in the hands of the Bonnano family for centuries. Francesco Paolo Bonnano, prince of the Linguaglossa and Baron of Gigliotto was the last in the Bonnano family line and sold off the estate. In 1990 the Gigliotto estate was bought by the Savoca family. |
