In the Greek mythology, Demetra, daughter of Crono and Rea, was the goddess of the prosperity of the Earth. The goddess was revered in the whole Greece and her parties were gloriously celebrated. Dèmetra had a daughter with Zeus who was called Kore. Kore fell in love with Ade, infernal god, but her mother did not agree to the wedding. One day Kore was picking up flowers, when Ade dragged her to the hell where they got married. After the infernal wedding Kore was called Persefone.
Dèmetra was so sad that she decided to leave the Olimpo trying to find her only daughter. While Dèmetra wandered around the world, dressed as an old lady, the land became fruitless. When Zeus understood the trouble of Demetra, he asked Ade to release Persefone, sending Ermes as messenger in the underground world. At the end they came to a compromise: Persefone would have spent four months with Ade ( winter time) and the rest of the year with her mother. This is the story of how the seasons were born.
