Gubbio
Set in the green hills of Umbria, Gubbio is one of the most beautiful and important towns of the region. It is located at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level and has a population of 32,000. Gubbio's historical origins are very ancient and mystical, and every period has left an indelible mark. The Gubbio tablets, dating to the third century BC, are considered one of the greatest and most complete records of rituals to be handed down from antiquity. Then there are the Roman amphitheatre (1st century AD), the tall towers of Palazzo dei Consoli and the adjacent Piazza Pensile (14th century) - the "pensile square" that has gained worldwide renown for its constructional concepts in space and form - and the Palazzo Ducale (15th century) that belonged to Frederick, the Duke of Montefeltro, in his native town.
