Situated on the most westerly point of Sicily, Marsala is a town of wine, myths and history. A walk around the town offers features of great artistic interest, including several museums, its famous Spanish palaces, churches and works of art. Not far away in the Nature Reserve of the Stagnone is the Phoenician island of Mozia, with a museum rich in ancient finds, and the salt-pans, which offer a scene of extraordinary beauty with their windmills. Marsala is the ideal city in which to spend a holiday of culture, seaside and relaxation or a weekend in contact with nature and its myriad of flavours. It has been awarded the Blue Flag several times for the clarity of the water and the cleanliness of its beach, which has long expanses of sand and, on the northern shores, rocks and deep water. The hotel can be found just ten minutes from Trapani Airport and a fifteen minute boat ride from the Egadi Islands and those who are fascinated by this part of Sicily, where the culture and traditions of its Greco-Phoenician past have been preserved, will undoubtedly be drawn here. Further on we find the San Pietro monumental complex housing the civic museum, where the chief areas of focus are the Garibaldi campaign and ancient Carthaginian and Phoenician culture; the Carmine covent and its pictures gallery; the archaeological area that lies beyond Porta Nuova. The last stop is the archaeological Museum where pride of place is given to the remains of a Punic ship. Not far from here in the Stagnone nature reserve is the Phoenician island of Mozia with its museum rich in archaeological finds and the salt works, which with their wind mills offer a view of extraordinary beauty. Off in the distance the three islands forming the archipelago of the Egadi, Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo, provide the city with a beautiful backdrop. The coast here has on several occasions been awarded the European Blue Flag for the clarity of its waters and the cleanliness of its beaches, which include long expanses of sand as well as rocks and deep water on the northern shores.
