The city of Conegliano: Conegliano (36.000 inhabitants), native city of the famous painter G.B. Cima (1457-1517) and seat of the oldest Oenological School of Italy (1876), it's nowadays the most dynamic economic and cultural reality in the province of Treviso. When leaving the railway station, cross Viale carducci and go along Corso Vittorio Emanuele where you will find the Fontain dei Cavalli, (Horse Fountain) inaugurated in 1838. Climb the slight rise on your right and enter into via XX Settembre, the "Contrada Grande" of old, and pass underneath the Dante Turrets (19th century) with a view of the rising Duomo (Cathedral) on your left. The church was built by the Battuti brotherhood in the 14th century. The church interior contains: the Pala del Cima (Cima Altar-piece: Madonna enthroned with Child, Saints and Angels, signed and dated 1493), paintings by Francesco Beccaruzzi and Palma the Young and two lateral altars with high-reliefs by Marco Casagrande. The frescoes on the facade dated 1592 are the work of Ludovico Pozzoserrato. From the "campiello" you can reach the Sala dei Battuti, (Battuti Hall) where amongst other things you will find frescoes by Francesco da Milano. Piazza Cima is a little further along via XX Settembre, here the view is dominated by The Teatro Accademia, (Academy Theatre) which was designed by Andrea Scala and completed in 1868. In front of it Casa Piutti (Piutti house) appears on Piazzetta XVIII Luglio, which housed the public schools from the Renaissance onwards up to the 18th century.

The city of Vittorio Veneto: "_ for the amenity of its situation, for the beauty of its views, for the purity of its air, for the fertility of its lands, for the quality of its food, for its generous selection of wines, for its proximity to the sea, for the kindness and valour of its inhabitants, for the clarity of its crystalline watercourses and springs, it is worthy of envy, and desire too _" Thus (among other things) was Vittorio Veneto described by Giorgio Graziani, a noble sixteenth-century figure who, enamoured of his land, sung its landscapes, uses and customs, its beauty in art and architecture.

The land of Prosecco Wine: The geographical area in which Prosecco wine is produced covers the range of hills which gradually descends from the southern side of the Pre-Alps of the Treviso province towards the middle of the course of the Piave river - an area which covers approximately 3,500 hectares of vineyards at various altitudes between 50 and 500 metres above sea level. This region is notable for its mild climate, a feature which seems to have been passed on to its inhabitants and culture.

The four principal centres of this northern part of the Treviso province - which since medieval times has been described in a number of writings (including of Dante) as "joiful and amorous" - are the towns of Conegliano, Pieve di Soligo, Valdobbiadene and Vittorio Veneto. Together with a number of smaller centres, these towns are linked by a 50 km road known as the "Strada del vino Prosecco" (Prosecco wine road). The road was inaugurated in 1966, but conceived in 1938 by professor Italo Cosmo taking inspiration from the Deutsche Weinstrasse which links the valleys of the Rhine and the Moselle.
